Parents place a great deal of trust in those who provide an education to their children. These professionals often spend several hours with their children every single day. The vast majority of educators are well-educated professionals, dedicated to the overall well-being of children left in their care. Unfortunately, one educator in Colorado has recently been arrested, accused of violent crimes against a former student.

Reports indicate that the man taught in several public schools in Colorado before he began teaching at the collegiate level. Recently, one of his former students came forward and accused him of sexual assaulting her 20 years earlier. As a result of the accusations, the man was arrested.

He is now facing multiple counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the case contact them. They are also urging any other victims to come forward. It is unclear what prompted the alleged victim in this case to come forward after so many years have passed.

While all accusations of violent crimes, including sexual assault, deserve an investigation, the criminal court demands a high burden of proof in order for a defendant to be convicted. This standard is often difficult to meet, but may be especially challenging when accusations come two decades after an alleged incident supposedly occurred. In order to adequately respond to the charges against him, the Colorado educator will likely rely upon an attorney with experience with criminal defense to ensure that he has an advocate willing to fight for him.
