As the weather improves and the temperatures climb, more and more Denver residents will be getting outside. With an abundance of outdoor activities to do nearly anywhere in the state of Colorado, residents will become much more active, hiking, canoeing and spending time in parks. Recently, a woman who was spending some time at a park was accused of drug charges.
The 33-year-old Grand Junction woman was at Matchett Park in Mesa County. The arrest occurred on an early Sunday morning in late April 2016. Local police accused and arrested her on drug possession charges after claiming that they found her to be in the possession of methamphetamine.
Shortly after 5 a.m., police officers came across two vehicles that were parked in a dirt parking lot at the park. Both drivers claimed that they were experiencing car troubles. Officers claim they saw items that are commonly associated with drugs displayed in plain view and, based on this, decided to search the woman’s vehicle. Inside, officers say they discovered a substance that they say tested positive for methamphetamine.
In Colorado criminal court proceedings such as this, the prosecution will have the burden of proving the drug charges beyond a reasonable doubt. However, the seriousness of the allegations will require that the defendant focus on the specifics of the charges she faces, alongside her legal counsel.
