Colorado police were on the hunt for a driver after he apparently caused a car wreck and then fled the scene. The first wreck caused a series of other collisions that resulted in one death and at least one injured person. While hit and run accidents typically result in criminal charges once authorities locate the involved driver, victims can still pursue compensation for their injuries and other damages.
The roads were closed off for hours following the deadly accident, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. The driver believed to have caused the wreck was traveling south when he hit another vehicle, although the details of the collision are not entirely clear. However, the vehicle that was hit was forced to collide with another car. That car went on to strike another vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle was killed while another driver was injured.
Colorado Police initially believed that the driver who caused the series of collisions exited his own vehicle and then fled in another. However, they later stated that he might not have driven away from the wreck at all, and may have instead actually fled on foot. The driver was located in an area park a short while later, and police claim that he was naked when they found him. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the wreck, although they suspect that speed, alcohol and drugs might have all played a role.
Criminal charges are not the only form of justice on which victims of hit and run accidents can count.
