Motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to die in accidents

All motorcyclists need to be aware of the risks that they face on the road. Many of these risks simply come from the drivers around them. Other drivers make mistakes, they cause accidents with motorcyclists, and the individuals on the smaller vehicles suffer severe injuries or even pass away.

In fact, the disparity between the two vehicle types is greater than many people realize. Some studies have determined that motorcyclists are around 28 times as likely to die in an accident as drivers of other vehicles. This doesn’t mean they get into more accidents overall, but simply that the fatality and injury rate is so much higher when these accidents do take place.

Why do motorcycle accidents happen?

There are many reasons for these accidents, and it’s good for riders to understand what they are and how they can avoid crashes. Much of the time, the issue is that other drivers don’t see motorcycles to begin with. This can lead to something like a left-turn accident, where a driver turns left in front of a bike and causes a crash.

As such, one of the best things that motorcyclists can do is to focus on defensive driving. It can be beneficial to give themselves longer following distances and to try to anticipate the mistakes that the drivers around them are going to make. This focus allows riders to react quickly to try to avoid a crash.

That being said, riders obviously aren’t going to be able to avoid all of the crashes that other drivers cause. Those who suffer serious injuries need to be well aware of their legal rights to financial compensation.
