Major effects of not-so-minor injuries (Part 2): Concussions

Seemingly minor injuries can have significant ramifications for your overall health and quality of life. In part one of this series, we looked at how whiplash can cause chronic pain and limited mobility, especially if not properly diagnosed and treated. In part two, we'll examine another common injury with sometimes chronic effects: concussions.

Making sense of Colorado dog bite law

They're often described as humanity's best friends, but not much is friendly about the dogs that bite millions of people per year in the United States. Sure, dog bite incidents vary widely. In many cases, the animal itself isn't so much to blame as its owners are. With average hospital stay costs in excess of $18,000, however, it's clear that someone needs to assume liability for the horrific aftermath that dog bite victims endure.

Multiple victims in nacho cheese botulism outbreak

When people purchase foods from gas stations, restaurants and other public venues in Colorado, they do so with the expectation that what they are going to consume is toxin-free. No one expects to end up in pain and suffering from food poisoning. People who end up with serious health complications after eating contaminated food can seek compensation for their pain, suffering, lost income and medical bills. The loved ones of victims who die from food poisoning complications can pursue compensation for funeral and burial costs and other expenses.

Common types of dog bite injuries children are at risk for

If you have small children and live in a neighborhood in Colorado that has lots of dogs, you may be worried about the kind of injuries your kids could sustain if a canine ever attacks. Many children love to play with dogs but are not aware of the dangers they face. The majority of dog bite attack injuries occur to children's heads and necks because of their small size, leading to worse situations than you might expect.

If you or a loved one experience an injury or death due to a defective product, or if your property is damaged due to a defective product, you may very well be entitled to compensation through a product liability lawsuit. There are a few rules to be aware of, though, including limitations on when and why you can sue. It's also good to know what types of defense you might expect from the product manufacturer, retailer, or other party held liable for damages.

The 12 Days of Christmas...Injuries?

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) maintains a database of injuries that are reported at emergency room and that involve consumer products. With the Christmas season being the height of a consumer-centric economy, there are naturally a large number of entries for this time of year. In the spirit of the holidays, we've set this article to the "tune" of the 12 Days of Christmas.

Can You File A Lawsuit After An Avalanche On A Ski Slope?

In Colorado, avalanches within the bounds of a ski resort have been legally declared an "inherent danger and risk of skiing." While that may not seem like much of a stretch at first, the fact that the Colorado Supreme Court issued this ruling has a significant effect for skiers throughout the state. Now, if you are hurt or a loved one is killed due to an avalanche at a ski resort, you cannot sue the resort. A section of Colorado's Ski Safety Act is now interpreted as prohibiting wrongful death or personal injury lawsuits in these situations.
