Man pleads guilty to drug charges after plea agreement

On Behalf of | Jun 19, 2019 | Drug Charges

In March 2018, local authorities raided the premises of a Colorado man as part of an operation to identify illegal facilities where marijuana is grown. His arrest followed in May, and his case moved through the court system of the state. In April this year, the 44-year-old man reached a plea agreement to enter a guilty plea to three counts of drug charges.

He pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, intending to distribute or manufacture concentrates, distribution of marijuana or concentrated marijuana, and tax evasion. The first drug-related crime is a Class 2 felony, and the second count is a Class 1 misdemeanor. The tax evasion count is a Class 5 felony. The jail sentence he received for the three charges includes nine months for the misdemeanor and two stints of 90 days each for the other two charges.

He was also sentenced to supervised probation of five years for each felony, and community service of 400 and 48 hours respectively. He will serve all the sentences concurrently. Furthermore, the court ordered the man to pay an amount exceeding $83,495 in restitution.

The fact that this man managed to get a 22-count indictment pleaded down to only three counts was likely the result of working with an experienced criminal defense attorney. Anyone in Colorado who faces drug charges or any other misdemeanors or felonies might find that having the support and guidance of legal counsel from the onset can be a valuable asset. Along with protecting the client’s legal rights, a savvy attorney can increase the chances of reaching the best possible result.
