A Colorado Springs woman who allegedly operates a day care facility that is not registered was arrested on a recent Friday evening. Along with drug charges, she now faces multiple other charges. According to a police report, her arrest followed a standoff that lasted approximately one hour.
Police say they were first alerted around 7:30 p.m. when a 2-year-old child’s parents reported their inability to make contact with the owner of the day care facility at which they had left their child. Law enforcement accompanied the concerned parents to the house, and several text messages were sent before they learned that the 27-year-old woman had the child inside the residence. However, a 44-year-old man eventually came out with the child, followed by the woman a while later.
Reportedly, officers arrested the man and the woman after the child was safely back with the parents, and then they proceeded to search the house. Police claim they seized suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and prescription pills valued at about $35,000. Also, officers allege they found a handgun and over $2,000 in cash. The man was charged with attempting to influence a public servant, while the woman’s charges include kidnapping, child abuse, possession of a weapon, drug charges and more.
