Hit-and-run accidents: Colorado driver located and arrested

A Colorado motorcyclist lost his life in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. Denver police say this was a hit-and-run accident that involved a pickup truck, a car and the motorcycle. Reportedly, the incident occurred on Interstate 25.

According to accident reports, a pickup truck driver collided first with a car on the interstate and then with the motorcycle. Despite being rushed to a hospital, the biker succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances that led to the collisions were not reported, nor was there any information about the condition of the driver of the car.

Police say the pickup truck driver left the scene of the accident. However, the truck along with the suspected driver was tracked down and apprehended a short time later. The 39-year-old man was taken into custody and charges of drunk driving and vehicular homicide are pending further investigation.

In many hit-and-run accidents, the at-fault drivers were impaired or panicked; however, some of them are just cold-hearted with little or no regard for the victims left behind. Although law enforcement catch up with most drivers who flee accident scenes, injured victims -- or surviving family members of deceased victims -- can proceed with personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits once the drivers are apprehended. Also, if their auto insurance included coverage for uninsured drivers, that may be applied in cases of hit-and-run accidents.

An experienced Colorado personal injury attorney can assess the circumstances and determine the viability of claims after hit-and-run accidents. The lawyer can also navigate the dealings with insurance companies. The attorney could also file a personal injury lawsuit -- or a wrongful death lawsuit -- on behalf of injured victims or surviving family members. A successfully presented claim might result in a monetary judgment to cover documented economic and noneconomic damages.
