Colorado Springs law enforcement says an investigation is underway after the death of a pedestrian. This is reported to be the second traffic-related fatality in 2018 — it is not clear whether both incidents were auto-pedestrian accidents. Authorities say emergency workers responded to the reported scene at approximately 4 p.m. on a recent Thursday.
A preliminary report by investigators indicates that the pedestrian was trying to cross a local street when he or she was struck by a car. Reportedly, the pedestrian headed east, and the driver of the vehicle was westbound. However, the car then turned south and failed to yield to the pedestrian who was crossing the street.
Paramedics rushed the injured victim to a hospital, but he or she succumbed to the injuries and died at the hospital. Police noted that alcohol and drugs were not considered to have played a role, and no charges had been filed. However, the investigation is ongoing, and charges might follow.
Whenever Colorado families lose loved ones in auto-pedestrian accidents, they may seek financial relief to help them cope with the high costs of end-of-life arrangements and other financial and emotional damages. This can be done through the civil justice system of Colorado, but the process could be challenging. For this reason, some people in similar situations choose to utilize the services of a wrongful death attorney to navigate the legal procedures and work to get the maximum monetary compensation for them. The lawyer can help to establish negligence and draft a documented list of damages for the court’s adjudication.
