Hit and run accidents often leave victims without compensation

On Behalf of | Apr 18, 2017 | Hit And Run Accidents

A pedestrian in Colorado was recently struck by the car of a driver who failed to stop. Victims of hit and run accidents often end up with severe injuries and unable to seek recovery. Authorities say this incident happened on a recent Monday morning. Officers were looking for a particular SUV in connection with the crash.

Reportedly, the incident in which the vehicle hit the pedestrian was caught on the surveillance cameras of two businesses in the area. Based on that footage, officers could identify the SUV. They say the pedestrian was crossing the street legally in a crosswalk when he was run over. Surveillance shows the victim being thrown onto the hood of the vehicle before landing on the ground.

The injured man was taken to a hospital with a suspected hip fracture, although doctors said the extent of his injuries would have to be determined. Police reported that the suspected driver waved down a police officer later that day. The driver admitted to having been involved in an accident.

Some hit and run accidents leave victims unable to seek recovery of damages while the identities of drivers are unknown. The fact that this driver came forward to admit hitting the pedestrian might help the victim when he pursues financial relief. With the assistance of an experienced personal injury attorney, the injured man can file a personal injury claim in a Colorado civil court. Once negligence is officially established, the court may award monetary compensation to cover financial and other losses sustained by the victim.
