Colorado violent crimes: Man accused of attempted murder

While in the throes of a medical emergency, a person may act in ways that are out of character. Often, their actions stem from panic or fear. Unfortunately, one man who was allegedly suffering from some sort of medical emergency has recently been accused of violent crimes after an incident in Colorado involving his wife.

The incident happened during the holiday weekend. Reports indicate that the 34-year-old man was in the area on vacation with his wife. As part of their travels, the couple reportedly decided to take a day trip. However, the man is said to have become agitated during the drive.

Police claim that he chewed gum that is said to contain marijuana. He reportedly told his wife that he was concerned that he was going to lose consciousness and asked her to seek medical help. Although she attempted to, she says she did not have cell service. Purportedly, the man then grabbed the car's steering wheel several times in an apparent attempt to wreck the vehicle. Police believe that he was attempting to kill them by either forcing them over a cliff or causing a head-on collision.

At this time, it is unclear if there is any evidence to support the claims against the man other than the information provided by the alleged victim. Assuming there was some sort of dispute in the car, it is easy for those involved in an altercation -- even one caused by some sort of a medical emergency -- to inadvertently exaggerate or misinterpret events. As a result, one person's word is often insufficient to meet the high burden of proof required for a conviction. Those in Colorado who are accused of violent crimes, as well as others, often ask an experienced attorney to examine their case and help them create the most appropriate defense.
