Aftermaths of auto-pedestrian accidents often devastating

On Behalf of | Nov 15, 2016 | Auto-pedestrian Accidents

As in most travel areas in the United States, Colorado roadways are often heavily laden with traffic. In places where on-foot travelers navigate the same roads as motorists, the risk of auto-pedestrian accidents is high. Even if vehicles are moving at relatively low rates of speed, the injuries caused to pedestrians when collisions occur can be very serious or even fatal.

A tragedy occurred on a recent Thursday night on Interstate 225. It was shortly after 10 p.m. when police responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers say they found a man lying in the northbound lanes of the road.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead on site. What authorities have so far been able to determine is that it appears the man had been trying to walk across the road from the westward direction to the east. At some point, a vehicle allegedly struck the man.

As has happened in other Colorado auto-pedestrian accidents in the past, after the first vehicle hit the man, he was then struck by two other cars, moments later. One can only imagine how devastating it is to learn that a loved one has suffered an untimely death due to a fatal motor vehicle accident. Investigators in this particular case do not  think alcohol or speed were causal factors in the collision; however, in situations where a driver is deemed negligent, an immediate family member who lost a loved one in a fatal accident may seek recourse through the civil court system by filing a wrongful death claim on behalf of the decedent.
