Auto-pedestrian accidents: Foreign tourist and local student die

Two men lost their lives in Colorado on a recent Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a vehicle. Auto-pedestrian accidents typically cause severe injuries or fatalities to pedestrians, while often leaving the drivers of the automobiles unscathed. This was also the case in this tragic accident.

According to a spokesperson for the Durango Police Department, the crash investigation is ongoing, and limited information was made available. However, preliminary reports show a 76-year-old driver headed north in an SUV when the vehicle mounted the curb and struck two pedestrians who were not walking together. Neither of the two survived the accident.

Reportedly, the tourist died at the crash scene, and the student was rushed to a regional medical facility for treatment of severe injuries. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later. The SUV driver suffered no injuries, and law enforcement filed no charges at the time of the crash, but charges might follow. In the meantime, authorities reported difficulty in making contact with the family of the deceased tourist.

Whenever lives are lost in auto\-pedestrian accidents -- or any other vehicle crashes -- the surviving family members may pursue recovery of damages. In this case, it might prove difficult for the loved ones of the foreign visitor who will have to come to Colorado to file a wrongful death lawsuit. However, as for any local resident, the experienced guidance and support of a skilled attorney will be available to advocate for them. A lawyer can assist with establishing negligence on the part of the driver, and successful presentation may lead to the civil court awarding monetary judgments to cover financial and emotional damages.
