Auto-pedestrian accidents cause injuries at Colorado Fairgrounds

The Colorado State Fairgrounds became the unlikely site of an accident that injured multiple people. The driver believed to have caused the wreck is also under suspicion for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Auto-pedestrian accidents can be especially devastating for those involved as pedestrians have little protection against large motor vehicles.

A street rod event was going on at the fairgrounds when the wreck occurred. According to police, a 63-year-old woman was driving toward the show when she quickly accelerated for no apparent reason and without any warning. The driver then struck a pedestrian before colliding with three vehicles. At that point the woman's vehicle finally came to a stop.

The pedestrian's injuries were not made immediately clear, although she required transportation to an area hospital in order to receive medical treatment. A second pedestrian -- a minor -- was also injured when one of the other vehicles accidentally ran over the girl's foot during the accident. Although the driver who apparently caused the wreck was also injured, she did not require hospitalization.

Colorado police arrested the driver and charged her for driving while under the influence of alcohol and also for causing a bodily injury while driving carelessly. The latter is not necessarily an uncommon charge for drivers involved in auto\-pedestrian accidents, as pedestrian typically suffer much more serious injuries than drivers who are situated inside their vehicles. Criminal charges often help victims feel a sense of justice, but they do not address the physical and financial damages of being injured in an accident. This is often achieved through the successful completion of personal injury claims, which can be supported by evidence collected in criminal investigations.
